Bush's Revisionist History

President Bush insisted last evening that we must win the war in Iraq. He also reiterated the fact Saddam wasn't involved in the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon five years ago. He did, however, repeat the delusion that Iraq was a threat to this country. Let's examine these statements.

We invaded Iraq without any plan for the occupation. Bush has refused to fire the man responsible for the massive failures: Donald Rumsfeld. If winning in Iraq was important or a priority he would have fired Rumsfeld by now. We lost this war and Bush and Rummy are responsible. Yes, it was critical we win once we went in, but they never had a plan for winning. Winning obviously was never a priority for George Bush.

Bush keeps saying Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush keeps linking Saddam with 9/11. He talks out of both sides of his mouth as do his top aides. Condisleeza Rice did so again Sunday. 43% of Americans still believe Iraq did those attacks because Bush keeps telling them so. Stop lying.

While on the subject of lying this fairy tale that Saddam was a threat to us is a complete delusion. You don't go to war unless there's a clear and imminent threat to your strategic national security interests. Even then you exhaust every other alternative. Bush failed to allow diplomacy to solve any perceived problems he had with Saddam.

Let's review what the situation was between the US and Iraq pre-war. Iraq was under strict sanctions from the UN. Yes, there was cheating and profiteering. But the level of corruption then pales in comparison to the Iraq we've created. We had $9 billion in Iraqi money simply disappear from our hands shortly after the war. Iraq was completely controlled and patrolled by American jets in two large no fly zones. No Iraqi aircraft could fly in either northern or southern Iraq without our permission.

We destroyed much of Iraq's military in the1991 Gulf War. Saddam destroyed his wmd's at that time and this was reported by the UN weapons inspectors. Bush knew this six months before invading according to Scott Ritter and Ray McGovern. Saddam had no military capable of attacking the US. He had no way of sending tanks, paratroopers, missles or unmanned aerial vehicles from Baghdad to North America. He had no nuclear weapons.

He was not a threat to us or our strategic national security.
