Lieberman's Arrogance Knows No Bounds

U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman of Connectucut today announced he is beginning a petition drive to appear on the November ballot anyway even if he loses next month's primary election. Anti-war progressive Ned Lamont is running a very good race against Lieberman, who supports the Iraq War and many of President Bush's most controversial programs.

"I am a Democrat and I will remain a Democrat" Lieberman told CNN this afternoon, oblivious of the fact that if he loses the primary and runs anyway as a "petitioning Democrat" he will split the vote and insure a Republican victory. Joe thinks this is simply "opening an option" even though the Democratic voters in Connecticut may decide they want someone else as their Senator. Someone who better reflects their values, beliefs, and principles.

Joe Lieberman wants to put himself above the Party, the people of his state, and the choice of the voters on election day. Why have a primary if the loser decides he's going to run regardless? The conservative Senator is worried that only a small percentage of Democrats will vote and is oblivious to the fact many may not vote because they're so sick and tired of politicians like him who don't respect the outcome of elections. He has no respect for the electoral process with a decision like this and it only highlights the need to elect Ned Lamont. The voters in Connecticut need to send a very clear message to Joe: it's time to leave. Joe, don't disgrace the democratic process and leave with some dignity. This is NOT dignified.

It's time to go Joe.
