Neo-Christian Intimidation in Delaware

A Jewish family has been forced to move from the Indian River School District area (Delaware beaches) because of terror imposed on them by a group supporting provocative, unconstitutional, and "in your face" proselityzing at the District's schools. The Dobrich family, one of two involved in a lawsuit aimed at ending practices such as teachers and administrators distributing Bibles, pamphlets, a teacher telling his students "there is only one true religeon," and many other abuses. The family moved to Wilmington to escape terroristic tactics aimed at them by organized "Christian" groups. The groups are angry that Jewish families felt the school district's overtly sectarian religious practices were violating their civil rights.

The Rutherford Institute, a neo-Christian group which purports to pervert Jesus' teachings of love and tolerance (thus the "neo" nomenclature), is representing one of the school board members against the lawsuit. The ACLU filed the legal action for the Jewish families, one of which elected to file as "Doe" plaintiffs to avoid retaliation. It appears that was a wise decision in light of the terroristic threats leveled at the Dobrich's.

For more information regarding the lawsuit visit the Delaware ACLU.

What can you do to protest these actions? Refuse to vacation at the Delaware beaches. The area from Lewes to Fenwick Island is a backbone of that area's economy. The remainder of that economy is chickens. Perdue and Townsend in particular. Stop buying Delaware chicken and stop going to Rehoboth, Dewey, and Bethany Beaches and you'll force these people to begin respecting other person's religious beliefs. You can also write letters to the editor of the state's two principle newspapers, The Wilmington News Journal and the Delaware State News. Letters to the Wilmington paper, the largest in Delaware, go to letters@delawareonline.com and letters for the State News (Dover) should be addressed to newsroom@newszap.com. Be sure to include information that you intend to boycott southern Delaware business interests.
