CT Senate Primary Today
Today is primary election day in Connecticut. Joe Loserman versus Ned Lamont. A DLC centrist Democrat versus a progressive, grassroots Democrat. A pro-war Democrat versus an anti-war Democrat.
Ned Lamont came from nowhere last spring with only a 16% showing in the polls to where he's the clear favorite today. The netroots and blogs have been instrumental in this surge. Mostly though it has been Lamont himself, his staff, and all the volunteers who are fed up with the likes of Lieberman and his support for the war in Iraq.
Democrats running this year are failing to gauge the voter sentiment correctly. The polls show 55% of all Americans opposing this illegal war. President Bush's support in Pennsylvania is 33%. Why aren't more, especially those supposed to be progressives, coming out against the war? As Tom Hughes, political director of Democracy for America says:
The Iraq war is the defining issue of this year's elections. It's that simple.
