Rep. Saylor Staffers Refuse to Notarize Diamond Petitions

The following is a press release from Gubernatorial candidate Russ Diamond:

A notary in the office of State Rep. Stanley E. Saylor (R-94) refused to
notarize a nominating petition for Russ Diamond's independent campaign
forgovernor yesterday, according to sources within the campaign.

After a resident of the 94th Assembly District called the campaign
tocomplain that they had been turned away, David Lynn, the campaign'sAssistant
Treasurer, confirmed with Rep. Saylor's Red Lion, PA office thatneither of the
two notaries in the office were willing to notarizenominating petitions for the
Diamond campaign, although they would notarizeother documents for
constituents.

"We're not quite sure why Rep. Saylor's office turned away a
constituentwith an official state form," said Diamond. "I've never heard of a
notaryrefusing to notarize a perfectly legal document. It makes you wonder
aboutthe real purpose of sitting legislators offering - or withholding
-constituent services through their district offices."

"It also raises the specter of partisanship," said Diamond. "An
electedofficial's state funded office should be free of any partisan activity.
Ifa notary in Rep. Saylor's office is refusing to notarize certain documentsas a
favor to the Republican party, then we have a real problem."
Diamond
indicated his campaign will be contacting the office of theSecretary of the
Commonwealth, who oversees notaries, regarding the refusal.

I'm not a fan of Russ Diamond. I've met him and listened to him and I do not support his quest for the Governor's seat. Russ is a Libertarian who doesn't believe in government. On the other hand I do believe he has a right to run and the right to get his petitions notarized by ANY public notary. Therefore I believe he's correct in condemning this State Representative for the conduct of his staffers. These two Public Notaries should have their licenses revoked.
