Fumo Accused of Wrongdoing
State Senator Vince Fumo, already a huge embarrassment to fellow Democrats, is now being accused of using state and campaign funds for legal bills. These legal expenses are due to a federal investigation of his office and staff. It appears the taxpayer monies are coming from the legislative slush fund. Use of campaign funds to fight off a federal corruption probe is a very novel use. If I were consulting for a Fumo opponent I'd be licking my chops preparing that campaign commercial. Heck, some of these spots can write themselves.
The taint of corruption around Fumo has been strong for years. The Philadelphia Inquirer has done several in depth reports about his use of charities and their ties to major companies. Using the taxpayer money is a new low though, even for Fumo.
This slush fund must be eliminated when the new legislature convenes. It is such a cesspool of corruption, misspending, and unaccountability and it stinks up the entire Commonwealth. The odious Mr. Fumo is just the latest example of it's stench sticking to all these incumbents making use of the funds.
