Sen. George Allen Illustrates GOP Bigotry

While conducting a tour of Virginia during his tough re-election campaign Republican George Allen took a moment to berate, humiliate, and then slam a young volunteer for his opponent, Democrat Jim Webb. Watch the video here. The very bad part is how he prefaced his racial slur, saying he would run a positive campaign. Sure, try to dress up your bigotry George. Did you think because it was an obscure ethnic slur people wouldn't Google it's meaning?

Immediately after singling out the young volunteer, a man of Indian heritage, he launched into a discussion of terrorism, implying the youth was part of that problem.

Campaigns always track each others' activities. It's a time honored tradition to attempt to catch your opponent in something damaging, bigoted, or simply wrong. The Webb campaign hit the jackpot with Allen. Generally campaigns simply ignore the opposition volunteers. The general rule of thumb is you simply observe, record, and don't inject yourself into the event. You cross the line when you attempt to disrupt the opposition's event.

Rick Santorum has been dogging his opponent with a young man wearing a duck outfit all year. During the 2004 election George Bush had volunteers show up at Kerry events dressed as flip flops. All this young man was doing was taping George Allen, much to his embarrassment.
