Iraq Debate: 2500

Congress is finally debating something important. Maybe if we'd allowed our soldiers to marry each other regardless of gender they'd have gotten to this issue sooner. I still can't believe it when I watch GOP Congresscreepers equating the war in Iraq with the war on terror. Iraq had nothing to do with September 11th. How many times does this have to be repeated before they understand it. Of course it doesn't matter when the President is constantly equating the two issues. Still, isn't it possible for some of these morons to think for themselves at some point?

The numbers for Iraq: 2500 dead American soldiers and $325 billion in costs, all off-budget. I'm sorry but I don't see the logic in fighting them over there instead of over here. The terrorists weren't in Iraq, they were in Afghanistan. Afghani paratroopers weren't about to descend on Harrisburg, Pottsville, or Altoona. We moved our forces out of Afghanistan and into Iraq. In the process we've created thousands of new terrorists. Still, Americans are dying. That's the bottom line. It won't be long before we've lost as many soldiers in Iraq as people killed on 9/11. Does it matter whose streets these 2500 people died on?

Tony Snow, George W. Bush's mouthpiece said the 2500 figure "is a number." I'd like to see the President say that to some of the loved ones of each of those soldiers. Maybe it's time for that long overdue meeting with Cindy Sheehan. Tell her Casey was "just a number." Explain to her what that "noble cause" was he died for.

Was the "noble cause" supporting Iraq's new amnesty program for insurgents? Republicans showed enthusiastic support for that all afternoon in the Capital. Explain to these Gold Star Mothers why the insurgents who killed their sons and daughters for such a "noble cause" now deserve amnesty.

The national fortune we've spent on this war is bankrupting us because we're borrowing the money. To make it worse we're borrowing it from Red China. It's time to raise taxes on the richest 1% of Americans who aren't feeling any of the effects of this war. Then start drafting all those college Republicans who have been such avid supporters of the conflict they are fighting it from their computers on Red State.org and other right wing blogs. Draft Jenna and Barbara first. I think they'd make good helicopter pilots.

Operation Yellow Elephant has been trying to convince these Young Republicans to put their lives where mouths are for a couple years now. Recruit a few on your local campuses.
