Not Conservative Enough???????
This week the Southern Baptists are holding their convention. Secretary of State Rice even went and talked to them. Isn't that sweet?!
And guess who else was there? The same moron who's been running around the country protesting at funerals because the U.S "tolerates" those fags. Yes, the reverend Fred Phelps from (get this) the Westboro BAPTIST Church was at the convention protesting. Why?
Apparently brother Phelps thinks the Southern Baptists are TOO LIBERAL!!!! I damn near choked when I heard this.
Proving, once again, that Brother Phelps will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make sure that he is thought of as the country's largest jerk. Brother Phelps, the leader of his church based in Topeka, Kansas (sorry to all you Topekans out there), in his "God whispered in my ear" wisdom, has decided that the Baptist Church (of all groups!) is now falling prey to the liberal homosexual agenda and must be stamped out. (Just an aside, can someone...ANYONE, please post a copy of the homosexual agenda document....I'm sure the homosexuals voted on a platform and they must HAVE an official agenda document (because everyone keeps talking about it) but I have yet to SEE said document..so if you could please. Thanks.)
Back to our story....
Now don't get me wrong, I have no great love of ANY religion and currently the Baptists are pretty high on my own personal hit list. But I believe in the principles of America and one of those founding principles is that you can worship as you choose...fair enough.
But I almost feel pity for the poor Baptists. I mean, how embarrassing it must be to see that Brother Fred uses the moniker "Baptist" (even though he SAYS his church is not aligned with a denomination - so then why use the word Baptist in the name?), then they need to endure him running around the country protests funerals of deceased soldiers using that Baptist label, and now they have the further humiliation of him protesting a Baptist convention. It's almost Lutheran'esque.
Personally I find it humorous. Although maybe it will take his mind off protesting funerals for a while. No matter how unjust the war, those families don't deserve that from anyone, especially a low-life like Fred Phelps.
Meanwhile I would like to say congratulations to the Southern Baptists for voting down a proposal to recommend the removal of their children from public schools because said schools were too secular. I was going to say that there was hope for them yet but then I read this:
'Instead, the committee called on members to "engage the culture of our public school systems" by exerting "godly influence." ' (What ego they must have. To think that ANY human would dare to believe that he or she knows the mind of God well enough to "exert a godly influence" is just astonishing .)
So although I WOULD like to say Congratulations...I can't, because apparently the Southern Baptists need to all go back to public school and pay more attention in social studies class...especially the bit where the teachers cover the Constitution and that pesky little section about keeping Church and State separate. I think after we ban gay marriage we should get rid of that part of the Constitution too...how 'bout it?
Oh well...sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Maybe Brother Fred will have better luck!
