Crowley Forum Lively and Informative
CROWLEY TRANSPORTATION FORUM LIVELY AND INFORMATIVE
EXTON – Chester County Library’s conference room was the setting on Monday
night for a community forum on regional transportation, the first in a
series of six, hosted by Anne Crowley, candidate for State Representative in
the 167th House District.
Crowley, a former software marketing executive, holds a Master’s degree in
government. Crowley stated, “These listening forums are the foundation of my
partnership with residents, where together, we build a better tomorrow for
our community and our children. I intend to bring residents and experts
together to exchange ideas on issues important to this area of Chester
County.”
Guest speaker Peter Javsicas, Executive Director of Pen Trans, gave an
overview of Pennsylvania state transportation policy. Javsicas noted the
connection between transportation and land use and emphasized transportation
as an economic driver.
Residents from across the District came out to share their ideas and
concerns about transportation, traffic and land use. Participants included
residents who commute to Center City via SEPTA’s R5, residents who commute
to other suburban towns by car, and residents with concerns about their
employees getting to work.
Several people in attendance cited the lack of parking at train stations as
a major impediment to greater use of regional rail. Ideas were discussed
that included increased parking as well as feeder buses to increase flow to
SEPTA stations. Some attendees expressed concern about the flow of
information about new transportation projects, such as the proposed Paoli
station improvement. Crowley noted that projects cut across jurisdictional
boundaries and promised improved communication when she is elected to
office. Other issues touched on funding and land use. “Many of these issues
are inter-related and call for regional solutions," according to Crowley.
“Whether if by the roads or rails, all modes of transportation, for people
and freight need to be safe, secure and efficient in order to serve
residents and business,” summarized Crowley. “Investment in our
transportation infrastructure will yield not only a stronger economy for the
District but also a healthier
environment and a better quality of life.”
Upcoming Crowley public forums will focus on the environment, education,
healthcare, taxes and senior issues, and will be held throughout the
district.
