George Allen Still Not Apologizing for Slur
It's actually quite easy Senator Allen, you simply say "I was wrong and I apologize." It's the best damage control there is. Face it, everyone screws up now and then. It's magnified when it's racial and winds up all over television. There's only one way to minimize the damage: a sincere, blanket apology. Otherwise us blogofascists will continue writing about the story, even pointing out facts like this:
The fact the Senator's mother was French and he likely grew up hearing the French slur for Black Africans makes this worse. It really wasn't about Mr. Sidarth's hair. The other comments about "welcome to America" put it into proper context. Just apologize George.
Meanwhile, Allen's past -- which includes a youthful admiration of the Confederate flag and an office that once displayed a noose -- lurched back into the public spotlight during the Republican's senatorial battle against Webb, a Navy secretary during the Reagan administration.
