New Study Debunks Anti-Immigration Myths

The anti-immigrant fear mongering being used to redirect voter anger this year may be based on faulty facts according to a new study. The Pew Hispanic Center says:

The report's findings appear to refute the idea -- often voiced by
supporters of stricter immigration laws -- that foreign workers depress wages
and take jobs from American workers, especially those with less education and
fewer skills.

This a common talking point for those demagogues seeking to get voters focused on immigration issues rather than the effects of their failed policies and/or their involvement in the pay raise fiasco. They keep maintaining these immigrants are taking their jobs. While against illegal immigration and the negative effects they have on society, legal immigration is, and always has been, a major factor in our country's economic growth, in my opinion.

What worries me is inflammatory rhetoric using fear as a motivation to rile up voters about certain issues. All this does is misrepresent facts in order to convince voters to vote against their own economic interests. Let's have intelligent, fact based discussions of the real issues: the war, health care, fiscal responsibility, gun safety, the things which are severely affecting everyone.
