Revisited: Romanelli Petitions

This is a story that has long legs. That's precisely why I said challenging these petitions was wrong. I'd bet Carl Romanelli has gotten $5 million worth of free publicity from the Democrats. This is name recognition he could never have gained on his own. Are there any pro-choice Dems left now who don't know they'll have a choice in November? This was one of the stupidest things I've seen Democrats do in Pennsylvania.

Regardless, it appears the petitions are rife with fraud. That almost always happens when you use paid canvassers. These folks are paid by the number of signatures they obtain so they'll do anything to get the numbers. The result is always questionable. Challenging them is still idiotic though because of the boost it's given to the Green candidate.

So the petitions may only have 20,000 valid voter signatures. I maintain if a candidate can garner the signatures of 20,000 registered voters they belong on the ballot. This requirement for 67,000 is absolutely insane and does nothing but foster fraud. We Dems just come off negatively from this effort. If fraud was involved it's important to reveal but there are legal processes for that.
