Rendell Pondering Retirement in the Cabinet?

Governor Ed Rendell says he would consider accepting a Cabinet posiiton for a Democratic Adminstration after his term of office expires. He also said he'd have to seriously consider an offer to be Vice President but stressed he intends to complete his full second term after November's election re-elects him to the Governor's mansion. As for that other office he said this:

"But my real desire is to be the executive. And as vice president, even Al Gore, who got a lot of responsibility from President Clinton, you know, you don't make the decisions."

Rendell said he doesn't have the time or desire to run for president in 2008.

Rendell could probably bring a lot to an office like Health and Human Services. I could defintely see him contributing in a Cabinet capacity. He could also appoint himself to a Senate post if one were to become available before his second term expires. I suspect he's already promised such a spot to another though. I doubt if those prominent politicos all dropped out of the Senate race just because they're good sports.
