Bush Double Speak
I'm watching President Bush's address last evening to the National Republican Congressional Committee (it's on CSPAN this morning). Early in the speech The Decider said Republicans are dealing with policy issues so they won't have to be passed on to future generations. Later he defended his massive tax cuts for the rich, including the estate tax which only affects 1% of American people and restricts the massive accumulation of inherited wealth. These tax cuts have accelerated our national debt to the point where we now owe $9 trillion. This massive debt, debt which is financing Bush's war in Iraq and out of control federal spending, is passed directly on to our future generations.
Double speak anyone? No Republican President has balanced a federal budget in 26 years. Not Reagan, not George H.W. Bush, not George W. Bush. This massive debt, financed by countries like Saudi Arabia, Japan and Red China, also impacts our national security. The fact that 14 of the September 11th hijackers were Saudi and that much of their funding came from that country had to be swept under the rug because of our financial debt to the Kingdom. Everyone knows you don't go and sue the banker who holds your mortgage.
Bush can't have it both ways. If you're going to claim that our national problems cannot be handed down to future generations you then must deal with the budget deficit. Now.
While on the subject of Bush's speaking style I'm so fed up with his constant condescending manner I could slap him upside the head (just figuratively Secret Service man). Stop speaking as though we're all idiots George.
Then there's this entire "frat boy" style. It was evident again last week in his news conference and got him in hot water again. At a news conference the President chided a legally blind reporter for wearing sun glasses. OK, he didn't know about his condition, but that wasn't the issue. The issue is this frat boy attitude he cops, even to the most serious questions. He laughs at very inappropriate times. W, when Helen Thomas asks you why you lied about going to war it isn't a good time to joke and laugh. These are the most important, most serious questions posed to you: why you chose to send our soldiers to war and laughing and joking about it isn't appropriate behavior.
