Supremes Veer Right

The Supreme Court, with John Roberts and Samuel Alito aboard is veering very rightward. Hang on to your rights because what's left of them are beginning to disappear. First they decided to gut whistleblower laws. It's now much more difficult to let a little sunshine in where corruption reigns.

Now this week they gutted the Fourth Amendment. Well, they gutted what remained of the Fourth Amendment. The USA Patriot Act, NSA spying, and the concept of the Unitary Executive had pretty much emasculated it already. In this week's decision the Supreme Court overturned settled law which required police to "knock and announce" when exercising a search warrant. This mean that officers of the law had to show a modicum of respect for a person's home by knocking on the door and announcing their presence.

Now they can come to your home, knock down your door and enter. Of course, under the Patriot Act they can do this without a warrant and search your home and not even tell you they were there. Of course now the broken door will at least be an indication.

Stock up on your guns and ammo before they decide to gut the Second Amendment next. They'll also come in handy if someone decides this will be a neat way to conduct home invasions. At this rate we'll all be sitting in our easy chairs with shotguns across our laps. Welcome to Bushworld.

I worry most what this will do for policemen and women. Many of them will lose their lives because of this ruling. I don't know about you but if someone broke down my door and came crashing into my home I'm going to shoot first and ask questions later. Especially with the rash of home invasions in our area. How many cops will get murdered before someone comes to their senses? Do you know how many search warrants are served on the wrong addresses? Many. More than a few court cases are dismissed because someone transposed numbers on a search warrant or wrote Pine Lane instead of Pine Court.

Who we elect to the Senate is very important. Supporting nominees like Roberts and Alito (as Bob Casey did) has serious repercussions in our lives. We must think more before we select our candidates.
