Carney Proposes Middle Class Tax Cuts

CARNEY PROPOSES MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUTS

Clarks Summit, PA – While visiting Tunkhannock businesses yesterday, Chris Carney unveiled his plan to cut taxes for middle class families. He outlined a plan to create a tax credit for first-time homebuyers and to make expenses for long-term and in-home care of elderly family members tax deductible.

"In tough economic times, the middle class has trouble making ends meet even before taxes are due," said Carney. "I will fight for tax cuts that provide real relief for our working families."

Among Carney’s proposals:

- Cut federal income taxes for the middle class
- A $10,000 per year tax deduction for college tuition
- A "new baby tax credit" to help parents with the expenses of a new child

"We need to support our hardworking families with tangible measures -- bigger tax breaks for child care and lower taxes for the middle class," said Carney. "It is time to stop giving tax breaks to millionaires and start cutting taxes for our working families who need the help most."

Chris Carney is a veteran of multiple foreign military operations, a Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserve, and an Associate Professor at Penn State, focusing on U.S. security policy and international relations. Carney and his wife, Jennifer, have five children and reside in Dimock, Pa.
