The Klan is Back

The Ku Klux Klan is planning a rally for Saturday in Gettysburg and hope to have another in Westmoreland County. There was no word about what Republican Party officials may be in attendance. Has anyone checked Sen. George Allen's schedule?

"We are not going to burn a cross in your yard or hang or lynch anyone. We are law-abiding citizens of a country that used to be so great and has now lost all sights of what America was founded on," Michael Knight, who identified himself as the Florida "grand kleagle," said in an e-mail to the Tribune-Review.

Interesting the Tribune Review saw this as news. The newspaper owned by extremist Republican financier Richard Mellon Scaife supports very extremist causes. Scaife funded the Arkansas Project for example. I'm sure he had no problem with his newspaper disseminating the news about this KKK rally either.

It's comforting to hear they don't plan on burning a cross in anyone's yard....this time. That statement about " has now lost all sights of what America was founded on" always astounds me. Do these people ever learn history? America wasn't founded to be a racist, white supremacist country. It wasn't founded so one religious group could force its beliefs on others. In fact, our founders came here to escape just such prejudice. The Pilgrims, Quakers, Anabaptists, Huguenots all braved treacherous seas in rickety ships to come to a wild, unsettled land because of religious persecution in Europe. They settled this country to escape the very kind of intolerance the KKK stands for.
