News and Notes

Various small items in the news recently.

Former White House domestic policy guru (they actually HAD a policy team???) Claude Allen pled guilty to shoplifting. Another crook bites the dust.

The Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives resigned amid accusations of mismanagement. There's something new, a corrupt, incompetent Bush Administration official. Who'd have thunk it?

Former Lt. Governor Mark Singel resigned from a company seeking a license to sell slot machines. As usual Mark did the right thing. He's one of the best people I've ever known in politics.

Former Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards is making the rounds protesting Wal-Mart. If anyone still doubts his "two Americas" allegations simply look to the Senate vote this week holding minimum wage workers hostage to an estate tax cut for the likes of the Mellons, Scaifes, and Hiltons. Wal-Mart has 7500 full time employees in Pennsylvania collecting Medicaid benefits. Why should taxpayers be subsidizing Wal-Mart's benefit package? The next time a right winger starts in on all the illegals siphoning off tax money for social programs throw Wal-Mart in their face. They're costing us far more.

Isn't it time to end the war in Lebanon? Both sides are at fault, both sides have suffered losses, neither side can win. Too many have died, too many have suffered. It's time for a cease fire.
