PA-8 Murphy Debates Fitzpatrick

Eighth Congressional District candidates Mike Fitzpatrick (R) and Patrick Murphy (D) held a debate on local radio and sparred on several issues, including Israel. Fitzpatrick, a one term incumbent, said he'd allow a pre-emptive first strike by Israel against Iran. Murphy disagreed:

"Now we're beginning the peace process and now we have a congressman sitting a few feet away from me talking about now going to Iran when we should be finding diplomatic efforts ... instead of trying to spread more war in that region," Murphy said.

This madness of banging incessant war drums against Iran is reckless. As Scott Ritter recently said , Iran has no nuclear weapons program underway (according to the UN). Giving carte blanche for another dangerously destabilizing war in the Middle East is simply insane. How high do Republicans want gas prices to go? Ten bucks a gallon? One of Iran's responses would be to shut down the Strait of Hormuz and cut off the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf.

The Eighth CD covers Bucks County and part of Philadelphia. From what I hear from friends in Bucks Murphy isn't aware the District includes the County. I hope he realizes this before we lose another eminently winnable seat.

"We need a change in direction in Iraq and we need a change here as well."

We agree.
