Irey Blasts Murtha for Calling for Rumsfeld's Replacement
Diana Irey, who we know supports torture and is profiting from the Iraq War, blasted Congressman Jack Murtha yesterday because he called for Donald Rumsfeld's resignation. I won't bore you with another litany of Rumsfed's incompetence since that's been itemized here ad nauseum. Here is the Torture Maiden's statement:
Let's examine this interesting document shall we? First it's absured to say a Congressman cannot call for the removal of a Cabinet member. It actually happens quite frequently. Eight retired generals have also called for Rumsfeld to be replaced. In fact I recall some Congressmen calling on President Clinton to resign. Where was Ms. Torture Maiden's outrage then?
It's been painfully obvious that Rumsfeld and Bush have lost the war in Iraq (which, by the way had nothing to do with the separate war on terror). Their supreme arrogance and incompetence have led to more lost American lives, not less. They are the ones mismanaging this mess. Ms. Irey and her husband, by the way, are profiting personally from the war in Iraq (see article directly below). It's obvious what her agenda is: stay the course so CLI can continue to get construction contracts. She doesn't care ho wmany more Pennsylvanians die in the process.
Jack Murtha HAS cooperated over years in a bipartisan manner. He has worked closely with Administration figures and Republicans in Congress. The difference between Murtha and Irey is she doesn't see the folly in asking more Americans to die simply to honor those already fallen.
IREY: NOW MURTHA PLAYS THE BLAME GAME
(MONONGAHELA, September 13) Washington County Commissioner and
Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey
responding to U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha¹s decision to introduce a resolution of
"no confidence" in the Secretary of Defense today released the following
statement:
"Rather than work with the Administration to fashion a strategy for victory
in the war on terror, Jack Murtha has decided again to play politics.
Today he is playing the Blame Game. Though he was once joined with the
Secretary of Defense as a supporter of sending U.S. armed forces into Iraq,
Mr. Murtha has now soured on the war on terror; though I disagree with him
strongly about how to wage that war (that is, I want to win the war on
terror, while he seems to want to retreat), I recognize it is his
prerogative to change his mind. But now he demands the resignation of the
Secretary of Defense, and in doing so he has again crossed the line."
"The Secretary of Defense is a member of the President's Cabinet, and is a
principal adviser to the President. It is not for Mr. Murtha to decide from
whom the President seeks advice and takes counsel, any more than it is for
the President to tell Mr. Murtha who should be the Congressman's advisers.
As long as the President has confidence in the Secretary of Defense, Mr.
Murtha's call for his resignation is a useless and, frankly,
counterproductive gesture."
"There are evil men and women in this world, determined to do everything
they can to kill as many Americans as possible and destroy our way of life.
Mr. Murtha should recognize that THEY are the real enemy, and work WITH the
Administration to fashion a strategy for victory, rather than continue his
constant criticism and his drumbeat for retreat. "
