Santorum's Child Exploitation

Tricky Ricky's use of his children to resurrect his senate campaign has the aroma of desperation. I thought it was bad when Ricky used one of his sons to send a campaign email shilling for money but now he has his brood telling lies about his charter school scam.

The Santorums live in Leesburg, Virginia, which is still a pretty good commute from Washington. Our Junior Senator is trying to justify his ripoff of the Penn Hills taxpayers by saying he did it to be a good father. Why then are there reports that he sometimes spends the night in the Opus Dei house in D.C.? Shouldn't he be home every night he isn't traveling through Pennsylvania?

The Santorums could have chosen to live in Pennsylvania and continued a reasonable commute to Capitol Hill. Joe Biden does it, taking the train from Wilmington every day. Instead of moving to Virginia Tricky Ricky could have bought a $700,000 house in Chadds Ford and joined Biden on the train. This excuse doesn't fly.

Let's examine the other excuses put forward by the Santorum kids. Why weren't the Leesburg public schools good enough for them? I have a niece who teaches in the public schools there and they're fine schools. School taxes are supposed to cover the cost of educating the children of those living in each school district. The taxpayers in Penn Hills shouldn't be forking over $75,000 to educate the Santorum kids who live in Virginia. This is a scam on those taxpayers. Unless the Santorums actually live there they shouldn't be forcing those people to educate their children.

During last week's debate Sanitorium admitted they don't live in their Penn Hills house. It's nothing more than a place he can establish residence. He says his family of eight stays in a three bedroom house one month a year. That must be a very unpleasant month for them, especially when they're renting it to other people. Regardless, Santorum admits that Penn Hills isn't their permanent domicile. That means the taxpayers there shouldn't be paying to educate their children, those in Leesburg should.

Santorum scammed the taxpayers in Penn Hills so he could continue the charade that he doesn't actually live full time in Virginia. Then he refused to reimburse those taxpayers. Now he's using his own children to try and defend his unethical conduct.

Shame.
