Biofuel Project Shows Need for Better Commitment

The Center for American Progress and the Natural Resources Defense Council sponsored a tour of America with an E85 biofuel powered car loaned from Ford. They were attempting to cross the continent usingonly the ethanol based alternative fuel. They ran out of gas in Wyoming, unable to locate a fuel source. E85 uses a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Only 600 gas stations are making the E85 available at this time.

If all government vehicles were required to use E85 the oil companies would be forced to provide more pumps with this fuel to meet the demand. I've only seen one E85 fuel pump so far and I couldn't even tell you where I saw it, other than it was a Sunoco.

We aren't going to get serious about these alternatives to Mid-East oil until bold steps are taken by our officials. Too many Americans are dying in Iraq to feed our oil addiction. How many more will be maimed and killed before we get serious?
