Shoot First Law Gets Criticism
This is another good column about the shoot first ask questions later legalized murder law being proposed for Pennsylvania. This is especially poignant in the current atmosphere in Reading. This morning's Berks County Commissioner's meeting was turned into another forum about the gun violence and murder rate in the environs. What was very encouraging was the amount of support for the development of some kind of county wide police force. Unfortunately we need the state legislature to enact the laws necessary to accomplish this.
I cannot see how we're going to curb the violence by enacting ridiculous legislation like the "stand your ground" law. This only serves to pour gasoline on the fires of violence raging in Philadelphia, Reading, Allentown and elsewhere. Perhaps we need to bring some of these NRA types to these ghettos for a few days. Let them see what the lack of jobs means to the quality of life there and why some people turn to crime to survive. Let them feel what it's like to be scared all the time, to have bullets flying everywhere. Let them ride with police and see what their jobs are like trying to control the violence.
