President Bush Doesn't Support Our Troops
The Detainee Treatment Act will put our soldiers at risk for torture and sham trials if passed. Bush's dogged determination to put them at risk will have a chilling effect on recruitment and retention, cost lives, and shame a once proud nation. Why is he so determined to subject 20 year olds to water boarding and kangaroo trials? Or far worse consequences. Because he's trying to cover his own ass. He's violated international treaties and laws and can be arrested and tried for war crimes. He knows this. Only by getting this bill passed can he gain some security. He'll still never be able to travel outside the country after leaving office however. He risks being arrested and hauled off to The Hague.
The only way he could have prevented this was withdrawing from the Geneva Conventions and the International Treaty on Human Rights before committing his crimes. You can't change these unilaterally, even if you're the Unitary President. The fool thinks he can get Congress to pass our own interpretation of these laws and cover his butt. If so he endangers every soldier who will ever wear our uniform again.
He doesn't support our troops.
