Delaware Increases Their Minimum Wage....Again
Delaware raised its minimum wage from $6. 15/hour to $7.15. An interesting item from the News Journal article states:
This means that Pennsylvania has more workers still earning minimum wage than several of our neighboring states. They have all raised their wages. How are our businesses close to state lines going to compete when our wages are so much lower? I'd be willing to bet they've already raised their wages in order to compete. Ironically I haven't read any news articles complaining how these businesses are going bankrupt because of the increased wages.
A study last year by the Center for Economic Policy and Research found that 1.6 percent of Delaware’s work force earned minimum wage in 2004. By comparison, minimum-wage workers made up 6.4 percent of Pennsylvania’s work force, 3.9 percent of Maryland’s and 4.4 percent of New Jersey’s.
