Santorum Believes We Found WMD's in Iraq
Think Progress (hat tip to AmericaBlog) reports that our non-resident Junior Senator Rick Santorum stated during Senate debate that we had actually found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This is huge news since this was President Bush's publicly stated reason for invading that country (at least the reason he gave before the invasion). This is also huge news in that the Iraq Survey Group has stated:
Even Bush has admitted that he was wrong about the wmd's (as with most everything he else he's uttered as the CEO President). So what was Rick smoking before he took to the floor and uttered these words? I think he'll say anything to try and justify his vote authorizing this catastrophe. Someone should get the tape from this and make a commercial quickly. This is another ad that writes itself.
While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991. There are no credible Indications that Baghdad resumed production of chemical munitions thereafter, a policy ISG attributes to Baghdad’s desire to see sanctions lifted, or rendered ineffectual, or its fear of force against it should WMD be discovered.
