Stem Cell Research Advances

Scientists are developing a new method that would make it unnecessary to destroy embryos for stem cell research and development. Thisis quite significant because the current theological opposition to embryonic stem cell research holds that these minute groups of cells are actually children. Therefore they equate the use of these cells as murder and/or slavery.

The new method involves using the single cells removed from the blasts for genetic testing and developing new stem cells from them. I'm sure the religious wingnuts will find some argument against this practice soon. I don't think these people are really pro life. They're against saving millions of people who are currently alive and breathing in favor of a few cells in a petri dish. They are against pre and post natal care for infants, early childhood intervention, nutrition and education programs, and a host of other programs that actually are "pro life." Then of course there's this whole death penalty thing. State sanctioned murder actually does meet their pro life standard. Such hypocrisy.
