Petition Reform

Along with the rest of the slate of proposed political reforms on candidate's agendas this year I propose one more: outlawing the payment for signatures on petitions. This entire practice of hiring people to circulate petitions has been rife with fraud. Paying a company a dollar or two for each signature is an invitation to their greed and fraud is almost always the result. You can likely examine any pile of petitions done in this manner and build a legal case for fraud. Currently we're seeing the result of this with the Romanelli petitions and a similar case in underway in Massachusetts.

If you cannot find enough people to volunteer to circulate petitions you don't have a cause or a campaign. Let's make it illegal to hire these crooked firms who prey on the system and our sensibilities. This is one more method to clean up the system.
