GOP: Horse Rights More Important Than Yours
This is the message I get from yesterday's Congressional action. The day after President Bush asked Congress, in a national speech, to legalize his warrantless wiretapping program what did Congress tackle? The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. Now I'm an animal lover and hate seeing them abused. I'm sure this legislation was needed and necessary. Frankly though, I'm more concerned with the violations of MY rights than the rights of horses.
This illustrates the complete lack of priorities in Washington. Instead of stepping up and saying "Mr. President what you're asking of us is a violation of constitutional guarantees" and invoking their rights and responsibilities under the constitution to provide oversight, Congress decided the horses came first. Alright, at least I know, very clearly now, where I stand with Congress: somewhere below Trigger, Silver, and the other horses.
