Why Isn't Santorum Being Held Accountable For His Votes?

A writer at The Morning Call is asking why Bob Casey isn't attacking Santorum on his vulnerable voting record. This is a very good question. Of course there are so very many areas where our Junior Senator is vulnerable perhaps they simply haven't gotten around to the crux of what the campaign should be: how he's actually voted.

Every six years Tricky Ricky tries moving toward the center and floods the airwaves with commercials depicting him as this warm and fuzzy husband and father. Bullshit. What he wants to do is legislate his extremist morality onto you and me. He wants to criminalize all non-procreative sexual activity. He favors a theocracy, not democracy. He's supported George W. Bush's failed Administration 98% of the time.

Here are some of the highlights of Sanitorium's voting record:

Because of his anti-senior voting record, Santorum has a 10-percent rating
by the Alliance for Retired Americans.

Santorum was also rated zero by the AFL-CIO, indicating an extreme
anti-union voting record.

the National Education Association gave him a 27-percent rating for his
anti-public education votes.

the League of Conservation Voters gives Santorum a zero rating because of
his anti-environment stances.

If you are worried about your job being outsourced to Asia or to Mexico,
you will be chagrined to learn that Santorum's pro-free trade voting record
earned a 100-percent rating from the right-wing Cato Institute. He also voted
against repealing tax subsidies for companies that move U.S. jobs
offshore.

the American Public Health Association gave him a zero rating because of
his anti-public health voting record.

He voted against spending $565 million to fund first responders for states
and improve ports security, and ''no'' on adopting the Comprehensive Nuclear
Test Ban Treaty.

And that's just for starters. For twelve years Rick Santorum has been as extreme a reactionary as there is in Washington. His chameleon act every time he's up for re-election has worked, essentially, because we Democrats have been too stupid to give the voters a real choice for change. We keep running Santorum-Lite candidates like Ron Klink and Bob Casey. There are dozens of issues where Rick is vulnerable and we've yet to hear anything about them from Casey. Why not?
