Get Ready for More Taliban Ads
No one in southeastern Pennsylvania has forgotten the infamous "Taliban" smear commercials run in 2004 by the National Republican Congressional Committee on behalf of Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) and Jim Gerlach (PA-06). The ads accused the two women running against the men of helping the Taliban and Osama bin Forgotten. Now both national congressional committees have booked over $16 million worth of ad time to reach voters in these and the 7th District race.
These three contests are close and are being targeted by many national groups seeking to affect their outcomes. If 2004 was any barometer of the levels to which the GOP will stoop to keep Americans afraid expect more such smears similar to the Taliban commercials. As PBS reports:

The National Republican Campaign Committee has already ordered around $8.4 million in advertising time, according to the public files at the stations, to help embattled incumbents Gerlach and Reps. Curt Weldon and Michael Fitzpatrick. The Democrats are poised to pour $7.7 million in on behalf of the challengers: Joe Sestak, Patrick Murphy and Lois Murphy.
